Highland endemic birds in Guatemala

In a few days in Guatemala you can find several of the highland endemic birds: Rufous Sabrewing, Green-throated Mountain-Gem, Emerald-chinned Hummingbird, Northern Flicker, Blue-throated Motmot, Rufous-browed Wren, Rufous-collared Robin, Blue-and-white Mockingbird, Pink-headed Warbler, Azure-rumped Tanager, Prevost’s Ground-Sparrow, Bar-winged Oriole, and others.

Christmas Bird Counts in Guatemala

CAYAYA BIRDING organized the first Christmas Bird Count in Tikal in 2006, which was the first in Guatemala after a hiatus of more than 30 years. Up to 2008 Cayaya Birding organized Christmas Bird Counts in Tikal and at Atitlan Volcano, and on 2009 we will begin the tradition Antigua Guatemala.

In 2008, a total of 48 observers participated at Atitlan Volcano, and 42 in Tikal. Among the observers were several birdwatching novices, showing that Christmas Bird Counts help the Guatemalan birding community to grow.
